Counting Down to the Comal County Fair!

Counting down to the 122nd Annual Comal County Fair and Rodeo has begun!

Beginning with the 13th Annual BBQ Cook Off on September 16 and 17, this year’s fair promises to be a great time for all.

One of the largest county fairs in our fair State of Texas, the Comal County Fair & Rodeo began in around 1892, and with a few exceptions, the fair has been held annually since then.

In keeping with the traditions set by the founders, the Comal County Fair & Rodeo continues to offer entertainment for all ages – music, food, thrills, rides, and so much more!

One of the oldest traditions of the Comal County Fair & Rodeo is the rodeo itself. Historians report that the rodeo began as early as 1894. While some of the events may have changed, the thrills have not. This year’s PRCA rodeo will begin on Thursday, Sept. 22 and run every night of the fair, culminating on Sunday with the PRCA Extreme Bull Riding event – a surefire way to get your heart pumping.

Rodeo clowns, mutton bustin’, roping and barrel racing will provide spectators with plenty of ‘ooh and ah’ time at this year’s rodeo. If you have yet to witness a Texas rodeo, the Comal County Fair & Rodeo would be a great start.

Every year, almost as far back as anyone can remember, young ladies from Gillespie County have vied to be crowned the Comal County Rodeo Queen. This year, the Queen’s Contest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17.

No fair would be complete without a parade – and in Comal County, they do it right!

The annual parade will begin at 10am on Friday, Sept. 23, and will travel down San Antonio Street, across the Comal River Bridge and end in Prince Solms Park.

Other things to check out – the Antique Farm Show, Baby Barn Yard, D&D Kid Zone, Shoebox Floats, the carnival and of course, the music!

Every night, you can two-step under the stars in the Comal Corral. Entry is included with your gate admission price. You will enjoy live entertainment by the Spazmatics on Thursday, Clint Taft and the Buckwild Band and Brandon Rhyder on Friday, Shawn Allen and the ‘bout Time Band followed by Gary Glenn and the 20X Band on Saturday and on Sunday sway to the Jeremy Richards Band.

If you are seeking some good, old-fashioned fun, you need to start planning your trip to the Comal County Fair & Rodeo today! Visit their website at comalcountyfair.org for more information.
